Rethinking the Fashion System Unit Plan
A three-lesson unit designed for Grades 9-12 (Ages 14-18), complete with a culminating 7Rs Action Project Guide featuring 20 project options.
Guided by the inquiry question – How can individual citizens influence systems to reduce clothing waste in their own communities, and take part in more sustainable practices that benefit both local and global environments? – students will deepen their understanding of the fashion industry and its broader impacts on the environment and society, evaluate different perspectives on sustainability, resource use, and environmental stewardship, explore ideas of global citizenship, personal responsibility, leadership, and collective action, and use their knowledge of The 7Rs to positively reframe the human and environmental impacts of the fashion industry. If desired, this unit can be taught after Solving Fashion’s Waste Problem designed for Grades 7-8 (Ages 12-14) and adaptable to Grades 9-12 (Ages 14-18).
